Alongside the morning

The sessions we run

Sessions that run alongside an ordinary morning, taken by people who do this for a living. Most are optional and most ask only for a voluntary contribution.

Music Classes

Tuesday

Child's Play offers music workshops for our budding Beethovens and Bonos. They last for half an hour and are taken by a professional music teacher, Rebecca Brennen, who has been with us for many years. Among other things, the children learn about rhythm and sound; learn to play percussion instruments; learn the basics of reading music and begin to learn to play the recorder and piano. These workshops are hugely popular and are an optional extra.

£4 a session to cover the cost of the teacher.

MatchFit

Wednesday morning

Sports coach Ronny Harrison comes in every Wednesday morning to run a ball-skills session. In the summer it is cricket based and in the winter months they use football and rugby to get the children active and develop their ball skills and co-ordination. Together with his brother Danny he runs Matchfit Academy, who run holiday clubs and sports sessions in schools and nurseries, specialising in cricket coaching.

£2 a week, voluntary contribution.

Forest School

Thursday morning

From September 2025 we are delighted to offer Forest School sessions for children in their year before school. The sessions are led by Julia Williams, a qualified Forest School leader, who also runs Forest School sessions at St Nicolas' Infants and Outdoor Learning at Onslow Infants. The sessions take place in the Forest School area at St Nicolas', across the road from us. Forest School is a fantastic way to build confidence and resilience in children and also fosters an appreciation of the natural world. It enables them to learn practical outdoor skills such as safe tool use, plant identification and safe fire lighting, but also provides opportunities to develop and apply the skills they learn at pre-school in a different environment.

£10 to cover the cost of the teacher and using the land.

We offer the following structured programmes every week

Easy Talk Boost

A targeted programme aimed at 3 to 4 year old children who need help with talking and understanding words. The programme is delivered three times per week over the course of a term to a small group of children. Find out more.

Think Equal

A globally acclaimed, award winning initiative designed to nurture the social and emotional development of children aged 3 to 4 years. The sessions are delivered three times per week, over 30 weeks, to all the children. Find out more.

Maths Champions

Two of our staff are currently undertaking this specialised training which supports the provision of maths rich activities at pre-school. Evidence shows that children at Maths Champions settings make three months additional progress in both maths and language development. Find out more.
