Welcome to Child’s Play Pre-School!

Child’s Play Pre-School opened in April 2008 and is owned and managed by two local parents, Thea Arthur and Susan Raftery.

Child’s Play has a great location in the United Reformed Church on Portsmouth Road. We are directly opposite St Nicolas’ Infant School (with whom we have very strong links), and a 5 minute walk into the centre of town.  We also have parking facilities for parents who need to drive. We have a lovely bright, airy room where the children enjoy free play throughout the morning and an outside area which is always available to the children.

We are open 5 days per week and from September 2017 we will be offering extended opening hours in order to offer the new 30 hours of funded childcare for 3 and 4 year old’s.

Our opening hours will be:
  • Early start – 8.30 – 9am
  • Morning session 9am – 1pm
  • Extended Afternoon 1pm – 3.45pm
  • or standalone Afternoon session 12pm – 3.45pm

We also offer two Forest School sessions each week for our older children which are incredibly popular. Please look at our Forest School page to find out more information.

We are a small, friendly pre-school and our ethos is “learning through play”.  We aim to provide a caring, nurturing environment in which the children feel safe and happy as part of a group which values everyone equally, whatever their abilities, sex, age, race or cultural background.

We have a fantastic supply of modern toys and equipment providing a wide range of activities for 2½ to 5 year olds. Children are allowed to develop at their own pace with plenty of adult support, producing well-rounded personalities who are happy and confident to go to school.
